    Hey how did the Little Big Ben tyres work out for you on the tour? I’m setting up my new Campeur now and wondered if these tyres would leave enough clearance with 45mm fenders. Thanks!

      Hi JB, the Little Big Bens are nice and cushy. Good puncture protection at first but once I got to Morocco, the outer casing was gone and I was puncturing every day. I changed to Schwalbe Marathons after that and didn’t have any issues with punctures but the tyre felt more solid. Fender clearance was tight under the VO 45 mm fenders. You can fit them, they look good, but if there’s any unsealed mud tracks, you’re screwed. The mud will keep jamming between the fender mounting nuts and you wont get anywhere. For summer touring you’ll be fine though. Hope that helps!

    I just bought the same bike in 51cm and am excited to build it up. Frame is here, but most parts are still on the way. I’m mounting 50mm SKS fenders. I’m curious about your thoughts as to whether the Schwalbe Marathon Mondial 40mm (42-622) will mount up fine. What size Marathons did you end up going with?

      Hi Shady, thanks for the comment. This site doesn’t get much traffic anymore and I’m surprised that people rock up from time to time. Congratulations on the purchase, I still love my Campeur to bits and ride it every single day! The SKS fenders are much more practical and the mounting hardware are mostly external unlike the VO fenders so I think the 40mm Marathons will fit. It will be tight though and you might have to cut or bend the fenders a bit to fit them. But I ran 40mm Little Big Bens in 45mm VO fenders so you should be ok. I am running 37mm Marathons now and have been ever since. I love them, no punctures ever.

    Thanks! Yes hard to find lots of specific info on this frame since there aren’t as many out there as Surly or other brands. Looking forward to the build which will be similar to yours. I have the same saddle I think.
